Artwork Statement
n 𝘐𝘯 𝘈𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 (2024), Weera-it Ittiteerarak delves into the heartfelt ways in which they inherit traits and mannerisms from their father who shape their lives, even in his absence. At the age of eleven, the presence of the artist’s father figure receded into the shadows of a modest, partitioned room, where a new chapter unfolded for them and their mother. Their father’s final gesture of care—a meticulously replaced lock—emerged as a silver knob, cold yet impeccably symmetrical, imbued with a wealth of unspoken emotions. This lock transcended its functional purpose, morphing into both a bridge and a barrier that encapsulates the intricate duality of their relationship: a bond that was simultaneously secure and distant, present yet hauntingly absent. Despite the ephemeral moments shared with their father, echoes of his essence resonate within the artist’s actions and expressions of care. The door lock becomes a crucial symbol—mirrored keyholes connecting disparate realms and illustrating the invisible yet indelible ties that bind them. The work, as a sign of intimacy, memory, and subtle transformation, captures the delicate interplay of longing, mimicry, and acceptance, and testifies to the enduring impact of familial bonds that persist beyond physical presence.
