Artist bio

Yau Wing Fung is currently an assistant professor in the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University. Yau concentrates on research and creation of "ink art" and focuses on transformation of visual experience, imagination and situationality. Yau pays attention to the potential interconnectedness of the contents of the frame, the way of viewing and the external form; therefore, Yau has deliberately adopted three-dimensional or installation formats to construct spatial and temporal scenarios outside of two-dimensional ink. His artworks have been garnered by Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hong Kong Museum of Art, M+, public organizations and private collections.

Artist statement

This work utilizes the techniques of blue-and-green coloring and lining to depict two independent spaces, creating an expansive landscape. The lining technique creates the outlines and shapes of the objects, resembling ancient woodcut printmaking, without the yinyang and gradation. Viewers engage with the imagery of the line through the colored sections, further creating a personal space in the transition between the two spaces.
