Artist statement

董慧,香港當代藝術家。現任亞洲創意教育協會創意藝術院士、香港現代水墨畫會項目總監及常委、四維彩墨畫會理事;同時為香港美協、香港廣州書畫會及當代創意水墨畫會會員。

2010年開始,董慧先後師從曹京學習陶藝、水墨大師林天行和林湖奎習畫,以及書法家張聖果和白鶴學習書法;2019 年結業於上海視覺藝術學院「當代水墨人才高峰班」,現師從現代水墨之父劉國松。

2020 年獲國際品牌 Salvatore Ferragamo 鞋履設計大獎;作品〈紫氣東來〉入選《全球水墨畫大展》500 幅優秀水墨畫作;作品〈斬妖除魔〉入選中國北京國際美術雙年展的《用愛一起抗》防疫專題系列線上展 (香港特區專輯)。2023 年榮獲《金紫荊盃新水墨畫大賽》一等獎。2024年作品〈離你很近〉入選第三屆亞洲美術雙年展,獲得優秀獎。

董慧的創作以羽毛入畫構成意象,引入道家哲學思想,展現她對人生的領悟及對自由的嚮往,其筆下羽毛之形態千變萬化,衝破界限,道出剛柔並濟方可坦然面對順逆境的人生哲學。

Christina Tung Wai is a Hong Kong based contemporary artist. She is now a Fellow of the Fellowship of Creative Arts in the Asian Institute of Creative Education, the Project Director and Standing Committee Member of the Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society, and the Committee Member of The 4-D Art Club of Hong Kong. She is also a member of The Hong Kong Artists Association, HongKong Guangzhou Arts Association and Contemporary Innovative Ink Painting Association.

Christina started her endeavor in art by studying ceramic art under Ms. Janet Tso in 2010, and later, Chinese ink art under contemporary ink colour Masters Lam Tian Xing and Lam Wu Fui, and Chinese calligraphy under calligrapher Cheung Sing Kwo and Bai He. In 2019, she completed the "Contemporary Ink Artists Summit Program" at Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, and is now studying Chinese ink art under the tutelage of Master Liu Kuo-sung, Father of Modern Ink Painting.

In 2020, she became the award winner of the prestige Italian brand Salvatore Ferragamo shoe design competition in Hong Kong. Her work "Propitious Portent" was selected as 1 of the 500 ink masterpieces worldwide in Ink Global that year, and another work "Anti-coronavirus" was also featured in Beijing International Art Biennale “Fighting with Love” Anti-coronavirus Series Online Exhibition (Hong Kong). In 2023, she was awarded the first prize at the “Golden Bauhinia Cup New Ink Paintings Competition”. In 2024, her work “Close to You” was awarded the Excellence Award at the 3rd Asian Art Biennial Exhibition.

Christina's works are known for the recurring subjects of feathers and Taoist philosophy, encapsulating the revelations in her life and her longing for freedom. Enlivened with different forms under her brushstroke, the feathers in her works, undaunted by limitations, are the epitome of softness and strength combined – a life philosophy of resilience.
