Artist Statement

HO Wai Lam, William 何煒霖
(b. 2001, Hong Kong)

Apprenticed under Dr. Chui Pui Chee. Graduated from King's College, Hong Kong in 2019. In 2023, obtained a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) in Visual Art and currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Visual Arts degree in the same year.
Member of The Jiazi Society of Calligraphy.

Ho has taught calligraphy at various institutions such as Jao Tsung-I Academy, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, and primary and secondary schools. In 2023, Ho won the championship in the tertiary division of the 5th Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition. His works have also been exhibited in the Ink Asia- INK Art in retrospect Exhibition Series in tribute to New Ink Art Movement II “Keep Up the Good Fun”, and the "Hong Kong Emerging Artists" exhibition at Jao Tsung-I Academy.

Specialising in Chinese calligraphy. Rooted in traditional techniques, Ho has a particular skill in running and cursive script. Ho integrates calligraphy into contemporary context , using traditional calligraphy to inscribe contemporary texts such as popular song lyrics and new poetry, explores the contemporaneity of calligraphy. Ho also occasionally compose his own poetry to express personal emotions.

師從徐沛之博士。2019年英皇書院畢業。 2023年於香港浸會大學獲得視覺藝術學士（一級榮譽）學位，同年攻讀藝術哲學碩士課程。
現為甲子書學會會員。

何氏曾於不同機構如饒宗頤文化館、香港視覺藝術中心及中小學教授書法。何氏於2023年獲香港中文大學崇基學院第五屆區建公紀念書法比賽大專組冠軍，作品亦於Ink Asia 致敬「新水墨運動」系列展覽 II 「努力再玩」、饒宗頤文化館「港藝新星展覽」等展覽展出。

何氏專注於書法創作，以傳統技法為本，尤好行草書。將書法融入現代語境，以傳統書法書寫當代文本，如流行曲歌詞、新詩等，探索書法的當代性。亦偶書自作詩，抒發自身情緒。
