Barbie Chit-chat in Mist Green (2024)

Artist Statement: I want to create a series of Barbies, as they represent memories I have never had. Previously, when discussing with friends, I realized that they all had Barbies when they were young, but I didn't. It feels like I lack that part of the memory. They mentioned that the earlier series of Barbies looked very different, so I bought a few from the 1990s to experience them and participate more in discussions. However, one of my friends has already immigrated, and when I wanted to understand more, I was just too late to catch up. For me, Barbie symbolizes farewell. Now, I find myself constantly questioning why I missed out on it. The explanations seem to help me understand myself a bit more. I hope I won’t just hide inside but instead carry the essence of surpassing myself through her. 

Artist statement

Chan Nga Sze works as a Registered Nurse. She is also passionately interested in painting and also participating in the hk wander land from 2022.
