My wall 2024
Ceramic, Sand, Stone, glass
18(h)x14.5(w)x14(d)cm

This artwork is named "The Wall". Sara Hung uses stones, soil, sand, and glass from Hong Kong as materials for her creations. She repeatedly embeds them in the soil to construct her own fortress.

Each time she picks up stones from the ground, she questions the soil and her own location, sparking issues of self-identity and territorial sovereignty. In her mind, each stone on the ground possesses a distinct shape, color, and story. She adorns the sand and stones as precious jewelry, reshaping and redefining them, much like how she rebuilds her imagined world and her own territory.

Through her artwork, she expresses a sense of the "unknown" about her own land, a mixture of doubt, anticipation, and fantasy. In this creative process that blurs the line between reality and fiction, she escapes from the realities of the world while seeking solace in a fantastical realm.

By choosing the materials she does, her artwork shines and dazzles with a mesmerizing surface. It creates a surreal and dreamlike texture, immersing the audience in an ancient yet avant-garde world, endowing her art with timeless value.

Artist Statement

Hung Lok Man Sara is a Hong Kong-based ceramic artist who has been addicted to ceramic arts and striving for the perfect aesthetic since childhood. Sara graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) degree from RMIT University, Hong Kong Art School in 2020.
In her mind, the soil and stones on the ground are still her creative inspiration. Because she believes that nature is the best artistic material. Every stone, every color of the soil, is so exquisite and unique to her, so she loves to use the materials of the real world to recreate her own imaginary "territory". She travels between reality and fantasy.
